For the First time in Bonteheuwel - International Yoga Day
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CAPE TOWN, 12 June 2019 – This year’s International Day of Yoga celebrations of this ancient practice for well-being and harmony is kicking off in Bonteheuwel with an exciting free public event hosted by yogi’s, Pramilla Vassen and Elizabeth Beer.
The United Nations declared June 21st June as International Yoga Day in 2015 after Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, made a passionate clarion call for adopting the day to promote the physical, mental and spiritual practice in the interest of “harmony between man and nature”.
The 2019 theme addresses the most critical issue for the century: climate action.
Elizabeth Beer has been teaching yoga and mindfulness in Bonteheuwel schools for over a year. Her and her team have been working in primary and high schools bringing yoga to educators and learners alike as part of the Western Cape Education Departments Trauma informed schools project. The programme teaches yoga, breathing and mindfulness practices geared towards educators and learners alike. It addresses the mental health risks shared by those living and working in impoverished areas in the Western Cape.
Together with Pramilla Vassen a well-known senior yoga teacher and with the support from Angus McKenzie, Bonteheuwel Ward Councillor, International Day of Yoga shall take place for the Bonteheuwel community for the first time.
“Yoga can bring us back to our natural state of being that is eternal, ever joyful and full of love for oneself and the world around us “. Yoga is not about touching your toes; it is a complete and holistic science that teaches us how to keep our body healthy, manage our mind and emotions, deal with stressful situations, maintain our equanimity amidst activity, and experience our true nature.”
“It is about realising that you are perfect the way you are, about feeling at home wherever you go, and living life as an expression of happiness, not a pursuit of it.”
The free public event by Lotus Production Management will take place on the 22nd June 2019 a day after the International Day of Yoga official date. The two-hour gathering will include a yoga session, breathing exercises, meditation and a knowledge talk. All are welcome.
Venue: Rosewood Primary School, No 1 Redberry Street, Bonteheuwel
Time: Doors Open at 09h00 – 12h00
